Detail Description

1. Abstract

Bank Customer Churn Prediction is a machine learning-based system designed to predict whether a bank customer is likely to leave or discontinue their relationship with the bank. The system analyzes customer information such as age, gender, account balance, credit score, tenure, number of products, estimated salary, activity status, and other relevant banking attributes. Historical customer data is used to train machine learning models that identify patterns associated with customer churn. The system can help banks identify customers at higher risk of leaving and support data-driven customer retention strategies.

2. Objectives

  1. To develop a machine learning model for predicting bank customer churn.
  2. To analyze customer and banking factors associated with churn.
  3. To identify important characteristics of customers likely to leave.
  4. To preprocess and prepare historical customer data.
  5. To train and compare different machine learning algorithms.
  6. To predict the churn probability of existing customers.
  7. To help banks identify high-risk customers at an early stage.
  8. To support customer retention and targeted engagement strategies.

3. Existing System

In the existing system, banks generally analyze customer activity, transaction behavior, account usage, complaints, and feedback to identify customers who may discontinue their services. Customer retention decisions may rely on manual analysis, predefined rules, reports, and historical observations.

Limitations of Existing System

  1. Manual customer analysis can be time-consuming.
  2. Large customer databases are difficult to analyze manually.
  3. Complex relationships between customer attributes may be overlooked.
  4. Traditional rule-based approaches may not identify all churn patterns.
  5. Early identification of customers at risk of leaving can be difficult.
  6. Historical customer data may not be fully utilized for predictive analysis.

4. Proposed System

The proposed system uses machine learning algorithms to predict the likelihood of customer churn using historical banking data. Customer attributes such as credit score, age, tenure, account balance, number of products, activity status, and estimated salary are analyzed to identify patterns related to customer attrition.

Algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, KNN, SVM, and Gradient Boosting can be trained and compared. The selected model can be integrated into a Streamlit or Flask application, where customer details are entered and the system provides a Churn / No Churn prediction along with a churn probability.

5. Implementation Procedure

  1. Data Collection – Collect historical bank customer information and churn records.
  2. Data Preprocessing – Handle missing values, duplicates, inconsistent data, and irrelevant attributes.
  3. Exploratory Data Analysis – Analyze customer characteristics and their relationship with churn.
  4. Feature Engineering – Transform existing attributes and create useful customer-related features where appropriate.
  5. Feature Encoding – Convert categorical variables into numerical representations.
  6. Feature Selection – Identify important factors influencing customer churn.
  7. Data Splitting – Divide the dataset into training and testing datasets.
  8. Model Training – Train multiple machine learning classification algorithms.
  9. Model Evaluation – Evaluate models using accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, ROC-AUC, and confusion matrix.
  10. Model Selection – Select the most suitable model based on evaluation results.
  11. Model Saving – Save the trained model using Joblib or Pickle.
  12. Application Development – Develop a user-friendly interface using Streamlit or Flask.
  13. Churn Prediction – Enter customer information and generate churn probability and classification.
  14. Testing – Test the system using different customer profiles.
  15. Deployment – Deploy the application for demonstration or organizational use.
