Detail Description

1. Abstract

Credit Score Prediction is a machine learning-based system designed to predict an individual's credit score or credit-risk category using financial and personal information. The system analyzes factors such as payment history, outstanding debt, credit utilization, income, loan history, number of credit accounts, and previous financial behavior. Historical credit data is used to train machine learning models that identify patterns associated with different credit-score levels. The system can provide quick, data-driven credit-risk insights and support preliminary financial assessment.

2. Objectives

  1. To develop a machine learning model for credit score prediction.
  2. To analyze financial factors that influence credit scores.
  3. To preprocess and clean historical credit-related datasets.
  4. To identify important features affecting creditworthiness.
  5. To train and compare different machine learning algorithms.
  6. To predict an individual's credit score or credit-risk category.
  7. To provide quick and consistent credit-risk insights.
  8. To develop an easy-to-use interface for entering financial information.

3. Existing System

In the existing system, creditworthiness is assessed using credit history, repayment behavior, outstanding loans, credit utilization, income, and other financial information. Traditional credit assessment generally relies on predefined rules, credit bureau information, and manual analysis.

Limitations of Existing System

  1. Manual analysis can be time-consuming.
  2. Large amounts of financial information are difficult to analyze manually.
  3. Complex relationships between financial factors may be overlooked.
  4. Historical data may not be fully utilized for predictive analysis.
  5. Risk assessment may vary depending on the evaluation process.
  6. Identifying early changes in credit risk can be difficult.

4. Proposed System

The proposed system uses machine learning techniques to analyze historical financial data and predict credit scores or credit-risk categories. Relevant features such as payment history, credit utilization, outstanding debt, income, loan accounts, credit age, and previous repayment behavior are processed and provided to machine learning models.

Algorithms such as Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, KNN, SVM, and Gradient Boosting can be trained and compared. The selected model can be integrated into a web-based interface where users enter financial information and receive a preliminary credit-score prediction or risk classification.

5. Implementation Procedure

  1. Data Collection – Collect historical credit and financial datasets.
  2. Data Preprocessing – Handle missing values, duplicates, inconsistent records, and outliers.
  3. Exploratory Data Analysis – Study relationships between financial factors and credit scores.
  4. Feature Engineering – Create relevant features such as credit utilization and debt-related ratios.
  5. Feature Selection – Identify the most important variables affecting credit scores.
  6. Data Transformation – Encode categorical variables and scale numerical features when required.
  7. Data Splitting – Divide the dataset into training and testing datasets.
  8. Model Training – Train suitable machine learning algorithms.
  9. Model Evaluation – Evaluate models using appropriate regression or classification metrics such as MAE, RMSE, R², accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.
  10. Model Selection – Select the best-performing model.
  11. Model Saving – Save the trained model using Joblib or Pickle.
  12. Application Development – Develop a user interface using Streamlit or Flask.
  13. Prediction – Accept financial details and generate a preliminary credit-score/risk prediction.
  14. Testing and Deployment – Test different financial scenarios and deploy the application.
