The Pest Outbreak Forecasting System is a machine learning-based agricultural application designed to predict the possibility of pest outbreaks before they cause significant crop damage. The system analyzes factors such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, soil conditions, crop type, historical pest occurrences, and environmental conditions to identify patterns associated with pest outbreaks. Machine learning models are trained using historical agricultural and pest-related data to generate outbreak predictions or risk levels. The system helps farmers take preventive measures, reduce crop losses, optimize pest-control practices, and support sustainable agriculture.
In the existing system, pest identification and outbreak management are commonly based on manual field inspection, farmer experience, visual observation, agricultural experts, and periodic monitoring. Farmers may take action only after visible pest damage has already occurred.
The proposed Pest Outbreak Forecasting System uses machine learning to predict the probability or risk level of pest outbreaks based on historical pest and environmental data. The system analyzes parameters such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, crop type, soil conditions, season, and previous pest occurrences.
Machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest, Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Gradient Boosting, or other suitable models can be evaluated to identify an effective prediction model.
Environmental & Pest Data → Data Preprocessing → Feature Selection → ML Model → Outbreak Risk Prediction → Early Warning
Collect historical data containing crop information, pest occurrences, weather conditions, environmental parameters, and outbreak records.
Clean the dataset by handling missing values, duplicate records, inconsistent values, and outliers where appropriate.
Analyze relationships between pest outbreaks and environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall.
Select important features such as crop type, temperature, humidity, rainfall, season, soil conditions, and historical pest occurrence.
Divide the dataset into training and testing datasets.
Train suitable machine learning classification models using historical data.
Evaluate the models using accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, ROC-AUC, and confusion matrix where appropriate.
Select the best-performing model based on the evaluation results.
Integrate the selected model into a web or desktop application.
Allow users to enter current crop and environmental conditions and generate an outbreak-risk prediction.
Display the predicted risk level, such as Low, Medium, or High, and provide appropriate preventive guidance based on the application's predefined recommendations.
