Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) project designed to identify and classify important entities in unstructured text. The system detects information such as person names, organization names, locations, dates, monetary values, and other predefined entity types. Using NLP techniques and machine learning models, the application processes sentences and labels recognized entities according to their categories. This project helps convert unstructured text into structured information and supports applications such as document analysis, information extraction, search engines, and automated text processing.
Traditional information extraction often relies on manual text review, predefined keywords, and rule-based pattern matching. These approaches can identify simple patterns but may struggle with ambiguous names, unfamiliar entities, and context-dependent meanings.
The proposed system uses NLP libraries and trained machine learning models to identify and classify entities within user-provided text. It processes the input, recognizes relevant words or phrases, and assigns entity labels such as PERSON, ORGANIZATION, LOCATION, DATE, and MONEY. The extracted entities can be displayed with highlighted text and organized into a structured format such as JSON or CSV. The system can use pretrained NER models or custom-trained models for domain-specific information extraction.
