1. Abstract

The project begins with importing the dataset into Power BI, followed by data cleaning and transformation using the Power Query Editor. The Power Query Editor helps prepare the dataset by correcting data types, identifying missing values, and ensuring that the data is suitable for analysis.

After preparing the data, various visualizations and reports are created in Power BI to analyze the sales performance across different countries, products, and time periods. These visualizations help in understanding key metrics such as revenue, profit, and sales trends.

The project demonstrates how Power BI can be used to transform raw business data into meaningful insights through interactive dashboards and visual reports.

The main objectives of this project are:

3. Existing System

The proposed system is a Power BI-based sales analysis dashboard.

In this system:

  1. Sales data is imported from an Excel file.
  2. Data is cleaned and transformed using Power Query Editor.
  3. Data types such as currency, numbers, and dates are properly assigned.
  4. Missing or incorrect values are identified and corrected.
  5. Interactive visualizations such as charts, graphs, and dashboards are created.

This system helps users easily understand sales performance, profit margins, and product trends through visual reports.


5. Implementation Procedure

The project is implemented in the following steps:

Step 1: Import Dataset

  1. Load the Excel dataset into Power BI.

Step 2: Select Data Sheet

  1. Choose the required sheet (Financials) from the Excel file.

Step 3: Load Data

  1. Load the dataset into Power BI for analysis.

Step 4: Data Transformation

  1. Use Power Query Editor to clean and transform the dataset.


Step 5: Data Type Correction

  1. Convert fields such as:
  2. Manufacturing Price
  3. Sales Price
  4. Gross Sales
  5. Discounts
  6. Sales
  7. Profit

into currency format.

Step 6: Data Quality Check

  1. Check for missing values, null values, or incorrect values.
  2. Use column quality indicators to verify data validity.

Step 7: Apply Changes

  1. Click Close & Apply to apply the transformations.

Step 8: Create Visualizations

  1. Use Power BI visuals to create:
