1. Abstract
Music Genre Classification is an AI-based system that automatically identifies the genre of a music track using audio processing and machine learning techniques. The system analyzes audio characteristics such as tempo, rhythm, pitch, spectral features, and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) to distinguish genres such as rock, jazz, classical, pop, blues, hip-hop, and country. The extracted features are provided to a trained classification model to predict the genre of the uploaded music file. This project can be used in music streaming platforms, recommendation systems, digital music libraries, and automated playlist organization.
2. Objectives
- To develop an automated music genre classification system.
- To extract meaningful features from audio recordings.
- To classify music into different genres using machine learning or deep learning.
- To reduce the need for manual music categorization.
- To evaluate classification performance using appropriate metrics.
- To support music recommendation and playlist management applications.
3. Existing System
Traditional music categorization relies on manual labeling by music experts or users. This process can be time-consuming, subjective, and difficult to scale when dealing with large music collections. Basic classification methods may use a limited set of audio features and struggle to distinguish genres with similar musical characteristics.
Disadvantages of the Existing System
- Manual classification requires time and effort.
- Genre labeling can be subjective.
- Large music libraries are difficult to organize manually.
- Similar genres can have overlapping audio characteristics.
- Basic models may struggle with complex music recordings and mixed genres.
4. Proposed System
The proposed system uses audio signal processing and machine learning or deep learning algorithms to classify music tracks automatically. Users upload an audio file, and the system preprocesses the audio and extracts features such as MFCCs, spectral centroid, zero-crossing rate, and tempo. A trained model analyzes these features and predicts the most likely music genre. The result is displayed through a simple and user-friendly interface.
Key Features
- Music audio file upload.
- Audio preprocessing and feature extraction.
- Automatic classification into supported music genres.
