Continual Learning for Changing Data Environments is a machine learning project designed to maintain model performance when incoming data patterns change over time. In real-world applications, data distributions may evolve due to changing customer behavior, market trends, environmental conditions, or user preferences. Traditional machine learning models trained on historical data may become less accurate when these changes occur. The proposed system uses continual learning techniques to update models incrementally as new data becomes available, reducing the need for complete retraining. It incorporates data drift detection methods to identify changes in incoming data and evaluates model performance over successive updates. Techniques such as incremental learning, online learning, and replay-based learning can be used to adapt models while reducing catastrophic forgetting. An interactive dashboard displays drift alerts, model performance trends, and learning progress. The system aims to support adaptive, reliable, and efficient machine learning in dynamic data environments.
Traditional machine learning systems are commonly trained on a fixed historical dataset and deployed to make predictions on new data. When the underlying data distribution changes, the model may continue using outdated patterns until it is retrained.
The proposed system integrates continual learning, data drift detection, and model performance monitoring to maintain machine learning models in changing environments.
Initially, a model is trained using historical data. As new data arrives, the system monitors feature distributions and prediction performance to identify potential drift. When predefined conditions are met, the model can be updated using incremental learning or online learning techniques. Replay-based learning may also be used to retain representative samples from previous data and reduce catastrophic forgetting.
The updated model is evaluated against a baseline using appropriate metrics before being accepted. An interactive dashboard displays drift indicators, model versions, prediction trends, and performance comparisons. The system can be applied to applications such as customer behavior prediction, fraud detection, sales forecasting, and sensor monitoring.
